“Green” tea themed shower favors

Published by kristineb at 1:17 am under Bride No. 3 Edit This

My sister, Bride No. 3, is planning to make her wedding eco-friendly, so I decided to extend that effort into her bridal shower.

The bridal shower theme is “English Garden Tea Party,” so I thought tea: a reusable, practical gift and Kim loves the idea! I’ve been scavenging the Web and am sharing my search. I want to find earth-friendly tea ideas, that guests will reuse and go easy on my budget. My goal is to spend under $4.00 per person.

I like the tea rest and at $3.75 each, it’s under budget before shipping, but decided  I didn’t like all the excess, not earth-friendly wrapping. I also hope to either find tea shipped from England or from a smaller Mom and Pop site.

I love the personalization these tea bags offer. The site offers several designs, but picked this for its muted color palette. My sister and I agree we don’t want to go overboard with any theme. Costs 70 cents for 60, so I could reasonably spent $.50 per guest. But, I’m concerned guests won’t use their personalized gift, defeating the purpose of a green, reusable favor. I also hoped to find something more British. Kim hates “cutesy” so I worry she wouldn’t like the uber-personalization.

I chose option number three, make my own:

PG Tips Paper Envelope Tea Bags

To give my favor an authentic vibe, I’m going with PG Tips, one of England’s most popular tea companies. Supposedly, the English drink 35 million cups of PG Tip, making me want to take a bathroom break just thinking about it! Each tea bag costs about  £13.50 or $23.90 (thanks weakened dollar). With overseas shipping, this seems splurge, but probably runs under $2.00 per person.

The blue willow pattern is a popular British take on a Japanese pattern. At 12 for $24, this will mean another $2.00 per person.

I plan to also purchase high-quality, (recycled, of course) paper and ribbon to tie my gift to the bride with a catchy phrase written on a card and the ribbon somehow connecting the tea caddy with one or two bags. That adds another $.50 per person. Bringing my home assembled favors to about $4.50 per guest Any ideas for a witty phrase for the card inserts? My ideas so far: Love is brewing, Perfectly blended, Steeped in joy.

Update: This post has been surprisingly popular, so for now I’ve included other make your own green bridal shower ideas, these pulled from Amazon, to the right of this post. I’ll post more ideas soon.
