Planning a wedding, seems everyone has an opinion

The term “Bridezilla” has become something we all laugh about, and I myself poked fun at my brides when they seemed a little overbearing. After only being engaged a week, I’ve soon learned why a bride can turn into a monster. Who knew planning the best day of your life could be such a negative experience. A few observations:

Where do I post the sign up sheet? I hope to have my sisters and four close friends as a bridesmaid, and am not taking sign ups. Nor, did I ever think I’d have to write that I’m not taking sign ups for bridesmaids. But, shortly after getting engaged, I called my good friend Andi. The second words out of Andi’s mouth? “I’ll sign up to be a bridesmaid.” Huh? Can we say tacky? I have no plans to ask Andi, she’s reckless, not a particularly solid friend, and not someone I want to rely on, I’ll be writing a longer post on how I manage to tell her no. This should be interesting.

Use your cute kid to get under my skin. Along the same lines as the sign up sheet, I called another close friend, who promptly put her 5 year old daughter on the phone. The daughter, Ashley, at Mommy’s prompting, asks if I need a flower girl! Can we say awkward? What a gut wrenching moment. I started giggling and never answered the question to avoid this one. Again, people, not taking sign ups here! I have family members, and closer family friends who will by prime flower girl age at wedding time.

What would you want to do that for? Don’t know how many times I’ve already heard this question, and it’s becoming so irritating. We aren’t having a traditional wedding. A close friend is performing the ceremony, there will be no cake, and the list goes on. My family and friends, but especially my family don’t seem to approve. My every answer to their wedding question seems to get this response. This lead to a break down and thank God for my finance, he gave me a nice, “It’s our wedding, ignore everyone and do what you want,” pep talk.

Overall, being engaged has been amazing, but planning a wedding hasn’t been as much fun.

I’m so going to need your help. We’re hoping to do for much less than $5000 you spent by cutting a lot of costs.
